VAM synchronization

Workflow: install the plugin → load it in VAM → select the device port → connect → test a scene.

Preparation

  • A Windows PC that runs VAM, with a playable scene.
  • A securely installed device, its power supply, and a USB data cable.
  • The device is recognized in GenijoyApp.

Connect device power first, then connect it to the computer via USB. Close players and other software connected to the device so they do not occupy its port. If you cannot find the COM number or the computer does not recognize the device, complete the driver installation and detection checks first. Do not copy the COM number from a screenshot.

Release the device connection first

Close or disconnect MultifunPlayer, GenijoyApp, and any web page or other program controlling the device through its serial port so they do not occupy the same COM port.

SR3 users must also connect the supplied 8.4V adapter and turn on the side switch; USB cannot power the servos. See SR3 USB connection.

Step 1: Install the plugin files

Download the VAM plugin

  1. Visit the Genijoy website. Under Software → PC software, download the VAM plugin.
  2. Extract Yoooi.ToySerialController.19.var from the downloaded ZIP archive.
  3. Copy Yoooi.ToySerialController.19.var into the AddonPackages folder in your VAM installation.

The resulting structure should look like this:

├── AddonPackages/
    └── Yoooi.ToySerialController.19.var

Step 2: Load the plugin in VAM

Enter Edit Mode and allow plugins

  1. Start VAM and select a scene. Check Edit Mode at the bottom left, or press E.
  2. Open User Preferences → Security and confirm that all features under Enable Plugins are enabled.

Add a session plugin

  1. Open Session Plugins from the menu.
  2. Click Add Plugin, then Select File.
  3. Search for ToySerialController and select the corresponding package.
  4. Click the file ending in .cslist inside the package to load the plugin.
  5. Once loaded, ToySerialController appears in the session plugin list. Click the button on its right to open the custom interface.

The first load may ask permission to run the plugin. After confirming it is the plugin you downloaded, choose Allow Always, as in the original guide, to avoid repeated prompts for this plugin.

The plugin should now appear in the session plugin list. If it appears in red, read the error log before repeatedly trying to start the connection.

Step 3: Select the port and connect

Open the loaded plugin's settings and follow this order:

2. Select COM portSelect your device's COM numberSelect your own device, not the screenshot's example number
3. Start SerialClick to startOpens the serial connection; the device may begin following scene movements

Finding the COM number

If you cannot find the COM number or the computer does not recognize the device, complete the driver installation and detection checks first. Do not copy the COM number from a screenshot.

Wireless connection

ToySerialController also supports wireless connections using UDP. Make sure the device and PC are on the same local network, then select Select Output Target → Udp in the plugin settings. Enter the device's IP address; the default port is 8000. See Finding the SR3 IP address.

Usage notes

  1. Play the scene and check whether the device follows its movements.
  2. Test an unfamiliar scene without load and with nobody touching the moving parts first. Check range and speed: scene movements can suddenly become larger.
  3. Click Stop Serial to disconnect plugin output. If movement is abnormal, immediately switch off servo power before checking settings.
  4. The session plugin remains available when you switch scenes without closing VAM. That does not guarantee every scene synchronizes correctly: the scene's motion source must still match the plugin settings.

Optional: Load the plugin automatically next time

After a successful connection test, save the default session plugin preset to avoid adding the plugin manually each time.

  1. Open Session Plugin Presets.
  2. Click Change User Defaults.
  3. Choose Set Current As User Defaults and follow the save prompts.

Automatically loading the plugin does not automatically connect the device. After restarting VAM, confirm the output type and COM port, then click Start Serial.

Troubleshooting

The plugin or .cslist file cannot be found

Check that the .var file is in the AddonPackages folder of the VAM installation you actually started, and that the version number in your search matches the file. Avoid duplicate copies of the same plugin. If it still fails to load, check VAM's error log for loading errors or plugin conflicts.

The device is missing from the COM list

Check that the USB cable supports data, the device is powered on, and Windows recognizes a new port. Complete the driver checks, then reopen the plugin settings to view the port list again.

Start Serial produces a red error

Confirm the COM number and close GenijoyApp or other software using the same device. If it still fails, record the original error log, plugin version, and COM number to help identify the cause.

Connected, but no movement

Check that the scene is playing, you have exited scene editing mode, the plugin receives motion input, the correct motion source is selected, and device power and movement range are configured. For SR3, also check the side power switch and whether speed is 0%. A successful serial connection only means communication is open; it does not mean the scene has produced valid motion commands.

Movement is too large, too fast, or noticeably jerky

Stop output, reduce the device's movement range, and test without load. ToySerialController includes advanced parameters such as smoothing, input multipliers, and speed prediction. Many target Launch linear devices; do not treat them as universal recommendations for SR3/OSR6.

Change one setting at a time and record its original value so you can restore it. Get basic connection and movement working before adjusting advanced settings.
